GMB Locomotion: Strength, Flexibility & Control Through Animal Movements
“Animal movements” are found in the dance and martial arts traditions of almost every culture. They are also the foundation for many other larger bodyweight, gymnastics skills. In this workshop we will focus on 3 – the bear, the monkey and the frogger. All 3 movements work on building the foundation of strength, flexibility and motor control – attributes you need to become a well-rounded mover. You will learn the 3 animal movements, plus several of their variations, transitions, and flexibility exercises. You will also learn how to assess your own movement patterns and identify the areas you need to focus on in your training, whether you primarily train with weights or just your bodyweight. The workshop will culminate with connecting movements to create some fun and challenging movement “flows.”
These movements are a good place to start if you are new to bodyweight training and moving. If you are well into your bodyweight training, and looking to build your skill level with larger skills such as handstands and planches, these movements are the foundation. Mastering these will take your training to the next level. Open to all levels – no experience required, just a willingness to crawl around on the floor, explore and have fun!
